初期はポストパンクの硬質さと退廃的な美学で独自の世界を築き、特に『Pornography』はゴシックロックの金字塔となった。その後、『The Head on the Door』でポップな側面を開花させ、内省的で壮大な『Disintegration』で絶頂期を迎える。
