バンドの代表作でありNWOBHMの金字塔的アルバム。ブルース・ディッキンソン初参加で、一気にドラマ性と旋律の深さが増した。
楽曲は速さとキャッチーさ、そして壮大でシアトリカルな要素が融合し、「Run to the Hills」「Hallowed Be Thy Name」は今もメタルの名曲と称される。
前作『Killers』の延長線上でありながら、より洗練された曲構成、クライヴ・バーのドラムとツインギターの掛け合い、スティーヴ・ハリスの力強いベースラインが際立つ。シーンに与えた影響は絶大で、多くのメタルバンドの原点として今なお聴かれ続ける必聴盤。
